The Sweet Life

This site is dedicated to my super supportive honey, friends and family who, like my addiction for sugar, have been constants in my ever-changing and crazy adventures. They are a simple reminder of how blessed and how sweet my life truly is!

First Professional Photographs by iFloyd Photography

These photographs by iFloyd Photography make my imperfect cakes simply beautiful!   These photos inspire me.  Only until my cakes look as flawless as Floyd’s photographs will I even consider starting a business.  For now, thank you friends and family…thank you Casaquit family…thank you all for your generous compliments and encouragement and allowing me to practice my cake craft for your special occasions.

Circus Tent Cake

Happy Birthday Caleb!  Deceptively simple looking, but there are at least 20 different different shapes that needed to be cut and/or molded in multiples!  The bottom tier is a 6" chocolate double layer cake with vanilla buttercream.  The tent base is a 3" chocolate cake.  The tent top is carved out of rice crispy treats.  The poles are fondant covered Pocky sticks.

Happy Birthday Mom!

This year, it was my resolution to decorate a cake at least once a month to develop my skill and experience.  My mom’s birthday was in January, and although she lives on Guam; I wanted to celebrate her life here in Hawaii with a little cake.  The colors were inspired by the acrylic plate the cake is on that I got on sale at Target.  I wanted it to have a cloth-like appearance, because my mom is a seamstress.  So, I designed a cake with ruffles.  A peony flower is ruffly and because of its size, just one alone can make a pretty big statement.  So I decided it was a good opportunity to practice making the flower for the cake.  I ended up with something that looked like a hat.  Go figure.

Happy First Birthday Caleb!

Tinker Bell - Happy Birthday to me!

For my 33rd birthday, I decided to make myself my very first Barbie cake.  What a disaster!  Barbie just looked like she was drowning in cake.  My second Barbie cake, which I made on my 36th birthday, was much more successful.  I've decided to make it a tradition to create a doll cake for every one of my birthdays from now on and hope that I see progress :).  For my 37th birthday, I designed this Tinkerbell doll cake.  Her dress was inspired by a rainbow skirt that Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and The City) wore that I totally just fell in love with.  The cake is red velvet with cream cheese frosting, of course, covered with fondant/gum paste petals/leaves.

Class Cakes

These are some of the very first cakes I made in my cake decorating classes.  The great thing about decorating cakes is that you're always learning and creating something new.  No two cakes you design will ever be exactly alike.

Toy Story

This was my very first attempt at a decorated cake/cupcake tower to go "public".  I had only been taking cake decorating classes for about a month.  I actually got an order for a cake at this party - the Elmo Cake.

Happy Father's Day!

Thank you Alice for giving me the opportunity to create this fun iPhone 4 cake.  As small as it was, it probably took me just as long as the Spidey cake to create because of all the details I wanted to put into it.  This was also my first opportunity to use the airbrush kit my baby sis and brother-in-law got me for Christmas.  Had a great time making it!

Happy Memorial Day!

I received an order from one of my bestest friends for a Spidey cake for their soon to be 5-year old.  I had not made a cake in months, so I created this mini, 3 in cake to practice a dark chocolate cake recipe I found online.  The berries made the cake so extra ono.  And I was so proud of myself because I didn't over-ice the cake and yet the frosting was pristine and smooth.  Do not underestimate the difficulties of frosting a chocolate cake with white buttercream.

Except for the ribbons, it's all edible.
